Is this why you can’t sleep?

So many of us are suffering from poor quality sleep.  We either can’t get to sleep at night or wake up in the middle of the night when we should be sound asleep.  Even when we do sleep, perhaps we are spending less than the ideal amount of time in deeper sleep where the body repairs itself and the brain refreshes ready for the day ahead.

Lack of quality sleep can leave us feeling miserable and low in energy and motivation.  What’s more, long term lack of sleep has been linked with serious health implications such as increased risk of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, depression, heart attack and stroke.

Stress, irregular lifestyle, caffeine and alcohol have all been associated with sleep problems.  But there is another major factor that affects us all that may have been overlooked or underestimated by many: BLUE LIGHT.

The same blue light that is part of the full spectrum of light emitted by the sun during the day is also emitted by our smart phones, TV’s, computers and LED lights.  Throughout evolution we learnt to sleep when it is dark and be awake when it is light.  Our brains have particularly focused on the level of blue light in the sun’s light spectrum.  You will have noticed as the sun sets, it turns more orange or red.  Not much blue light going on there, must be time to start settling down for the night.  We have our own internal body clock, our circadian rhythm, which is mostly set by exposure to blue light.  The modern phenomenon of smart phones, tablets, TV’s, computers and LED lights confuses our body into thinking it is daytime.  No wonder we can’t sleep!

So, what can we do? During the day get outside, without your shades on, and get a good dose of natural daylight.  That will help set your body clock and is especially beneficial if you can get out in the morning.  But what about at night?  Short of going back to live in caves we are not going to eliminate all the blue light spectrum from our night time environment.  Whilst night modes on phones and tablets and dimming the LED lights will help to some extent, it is very difficult to eliminate all blue light.  Fortunately there is a simple solution proven to make a big impact.

Zorus Amber Lens Blue Light Blocking Glasses block out 99% of blue light.  It has been scientifically proven that wearing blue light blocking glasses 1-2 hours before bed has a profound  impact on sleep quality.

This is what a few people say about them:

‘On the five nights I wore them, I slept peacefully. The two nights I didn’t wear them, was back to my normal interrupted sleep patterns.’  Mike

‘I was revising for my exams and it was taking me 3 hours each night to get to sleep leaving me tired, stressed and struggling to concentrate.  I started wearing the Zorus glasses 2 hours before bed and found I could get to sleep within 30 minutes. That was a major help.’  Zak

‘I bought a pair of Zorus Amber Lens Blue Light Blocking Glasses for my son who took a long time getting to sleep and was tired at school. I suspected blue light from the gaming computer at night playing a part in this, but try negotiating minimal or no night time blue light with a modern day teenager! Zorus Amber Lens were a great compromise. We saw success after just two nights of use.’ Natalie

By wearing Zorus Amber Lens Blue Light Blocking Glasses 1 to 2 hours before bed you block out the artificial blue light that we are all exposed to and allow your body to get back to its natural rhythm.

Be careful what kind of blue light blocking glasses you choose though. There are many clear lens blue light blocking glasses available, often referred to as computer glasses, that are designed to prevent eye strain and make working for long hours in front of a computer less tiring. These may block typically 30% of the blue light, which is fine for what they are intended for, but is not enough to significantly impact on your sleep.  The amber lens technology in Zorus Amber Lens Glasses filters out 99% of blue light.
